[Tips] Aerial Photography

I want to share tips about taking pictures from commercial airplanes, I rarely travelling with airlines. However, each time using a plane, I always prepare for the shooting of the plane. Real easy thing, but sometimes a lot of budding photographer not thing for take a picture from airlines. Basically take photos from airline when we travelling come under aerial photography. It has a more difficult, after underwater photography.

There are a few things about shooting from airplane


Your baggage is located right above your head, but you do not want to take photos with ease when having to open the camera and take a camera bag. Make sure you’ve your camera already, when the aircraft will take off or landing you ready for take a picture.

If you really want to take a picture the land from airplane, make sure your seat distance betweet the wing. It this case allows you to specify the wing into framing your picture or not. Meanwhile, when you seating near the wings, the wings will be dominant on your frame. Make sure you ask for seating.

Camera and Lense

Photographing through the window of the plane will degrade your image quality, as good as any there is a glass barrier plane. Although the decline in the quality a bit, and still can be helped if shooting with RAW format. Use shutter speed least 1/250 and aperture f4-f8, in order to reduce image blur. If you’re using a lens with IS or VR feature better enabled the feature. Use a lens with fast auto focus and wide tele zoom like 24-105 L f 4.

Learn From Previous Photo

It is even more important, when you use airlines, where you departed and arrived. You should’ve seen the photos before, can get any object with the seating on your plane.
